Most vertebrates have vision, but the placement of the eyes in the head, and the anatomical and functional details of the eye, vary greatly among orders, families, and even species of animals. Presumably, each species is equipped with the eyes that best suit its individual lifestyle; important factors might include whether it is aquatic, terrestrial, or arboreal; whether it is predator, prey, or both; and so forth.
